This waypoint is located next to the climbing wall on the east bank of the river.

Meet the second of the Bow Back Rivers on this route – the City Mill River. Like most of the rivers in the Park, it isn’t totally natural or totally man-made. Historically, the low lying land of the lower Lea valley had several constantly-shifting water channels. Some of these were deepened and straightened to take the water where it was most needed. The concrete banks you can see show that this has been done to the City Mill River.

On the other side of City Mill River you can see the Olympic Bell. At just under 23 tonnes it was the second heaviest bell in the world when it was rung to start the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

To find the next waypoint, continue along the side of City Mill River and go halfway across the blue-green iron footbridge.
